A dishwashing brush ??
(only joking !!)

Not sure.

By a process of elimination it's definitely not a daffodil, a rose or an iris so it must be...

I/m sure that Pauline, Tim F or Susan will know!

I'm with Craig...
Heartychoke flour...

[or Cardoon.....
similar size thistle flower...
but you eat a different bit!

Both make magnificent archie textural plantings...
Cardoon, though, is a pale, matt green...
and the leaves are more divided!]

It certainly looks like a thistle of some sort, and I expect Craig will be right with artichoke (or cardoon -- I don't think you could tell them apart from these photos, and I don't think many people know the difference anyway). Just to broaden it a bit though, I'll go for spear thistle Cirsium vulgare.

And the winner is.....

Craig - you got in first! Closely followed by Tim.

Gaynor and Jean - we speak the same language!!!

Susan, full marks for spotting the similarity! We wondered who would make the comparison with Cirsium vulgare.

So in true British tradition (albeit via France), you're all winners!
